FOCUS ON TEXTURE in Black and White Photography

The texture is actually a form of revenge, but is perceived quite differently. If you think about it, the texture is a regular or irregular pattern of shadows and highlights in different intensities. The black and white really lends to the texture and the color of the set, add another layer of complexity, masking the more subtle textures. Look for areas of interesting texture that can be photographed by zeroing in concrete surfaces and examined for signs of the patterns of change.

The choices you make in the post-processing can really make a difference in texture as well. When converting to black and white, you can usually pull the smooth texture are not based on the choice of conversion methods. The digital photos, blue and red usually contain more noise than the green, so tools such as the adjustment layer and the Channel Mixer in Photoshop black and white can really accentuate the textures on board.
